J.R. Miller on Everyday Tasks

“There is no other way in which one's life will so surely and so quickly become transfigured — as in the faithful, happy, cheerful doing of everyday tasks. We need to remember that this world is not so much a place for doing things — as for making character. Household life is not primarily a sphere for good cooking, tidy keeping of things, thorough sweeping and dusting, careful nursing and training of children, hospitable entertainment of friends, and the thousand things that must be done each day. Home is a sphere for transforming souls into radiant beauty. But we must take heed always that we do our tasks, whatever they are, with love. Doing any kind of work unwillingly, fretfully, with complaint and murmuring, hurts the life.”
J.R. Miller
The quotes you've shared this week from J.R. Miller have been both very encouraging and challenging to me. His perspective is, I think, very Christ-like.
By the way Grace Gems has a very large collection of his sermons and devotions on their website. Just in case you haven't found it already, here is a link:

I must confess that I am often tempted to see every day tasks more as a drudgery and distraction then anything else.
It is then that I have to remind myself to view all my work (and all my life), including the normal everyday tasks, as a means of glorifying God. So what may be lightly esteemed in the world's eyes can--by God's enabling grace--be exalted to loving service to our Lord!
And to view my family as the first ministry in my life that God in his sovereign plan and perfect wisdom has chosen for me.
Thank you so much Mr. Konvalin for sharing these quotes, as they have been very edifying.
For the honor of the King,
John
P.S. I am greatly looking forward to that info you promised to send me last week about how to defend God's Word without compromising that same Word as our ultimate epistemological authority.
John:
I actually got the quotes this week from Grace Gems. Often I find a quote and when making sure it is correct or to get a fuller sense of the context to post I end up there.
