Francis Schaeffer on Salvation

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, July 11, 2019 at 5:30 AM

“When a man comes under the blood of Christ, his whole capacity as a man is refashioned. His soul is saved, yes, but so are his mind and his body. True spirituality means the lordship of Christ over the total man.”

Francis Schaeffer on Presuppositions

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, July 4, 2019 at 5:30 AM

“Most people catch their presuppositions from their family and surrounding society, the way that a child catches the measles. But people with understanding realize that their presuppositions should be *chosen* after a careful consideration of which worldview is true.”

Francis Schaeffer on the Christian Home

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 5:30 AM

“A compassionate open home is part of Christian responsibility, and should be practiced up to the level of capacity.”

Francis Schaeffer on Government

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Friday, June 21, 2019 at 5:30 AM

“We must realize that the Reformation world view leads in the direction of government freedom. But the humanist world view with inevitable certainty leads in the direction of statism. This is so because humanists, having no god, must put something at the center, and it is inevitably society, government, or the state.”

Francis Schaeffer on the Problem of Existence

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 5:30 AM

"The answer to the problem of existence is that the infinite-personal, triune God is there, and that infinite-personal, triune God is not silent."

Francis Schaeffer on Christian Unity

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 5:30 AM

"The world looks, shrugs its shoulders and turns away.  It has not seen even the beginning of a living church in the midst of a dying culture.  It has not seen the beginning of what Jesus indicates is the final apologetic - observable oneness among true Christians who are truly brothers in Christ."

Francis Schaeffer on Caring for Nature

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , , | Posted On Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 5:30 AM

"Christians, of all people, should not be the destroyers.  We should treat nature with an overwhelming respect.  We may cut down a tree to build a house, or to make a fire to keep the family warm.  But we should not cut down the tree just to cut down the tree."

Francis Schaeffer

Francis Schaeffer on Dominion and Nature

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , , | Posted On Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 5:00 AM

"It is the same when we have dominion over nature: it is not ours.  It belongs to God, and we are to exercise our dominion over these things not as though entitled to exploit them, but as things borrowed or held in trust."

Francis Schaeffer

Francis Schaeffer on Nature

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 5:30 AM

"It is the Biblical view of nature that gives nature a value in itself; not to be used merely as an argument in apologetics, but of value in itself because God made it."

Francis Schaeffer on Loving One Another

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , , | Posted On Friday, March 2, 2018 at 5:30 AM

"If we do not show love to one another, the world has a right to question whether Christianity is true."

Francis Schaeffer on The Church and the People of God

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , , | Posted On Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 5:30 AM

“The central problem of our age is not liberalism or modernism, nor the old Roman Catholicism or the new Roman Catholicism, nor the threat of communism, nor even the threat of rationalism and the monolithic consensus which surrounds us [nor, I would add today, postmodernism or materialistic consumerism or visceral sensualism or whatever]. All these are dangerous but not the primary threat. The real problem is this: the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, individually or corporately, tending to do the Lord’s work in the power of the flesh rather than of the Spirit. The central problem is always in the midst of the people of God, not in the circumstances surrounding them.”

Francis Schaeffer on the Church

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Friday, February 19, 2016 at 5:30 AM

“In words and practice the Church must also, as a corporate body, show that it takes holiness and love, and love and communication seriously.  And how can it do this unless it consciously practices holiness and love, and love and communication, both towards those inside the church group and those Christians outside their group?”

Francis Schaeffer on Faith

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 5:30 AM

“Christian faith is never faith in faith.  Christian faith is never without content.  Christian faith is never a jump in the dark.  Christian faith is always believing what God has said.  And Christian faith rests upon Christ’s finished work on the cross.”

Francis Schaeffer on Living a Supernatural Life

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 5:30 AM

“According to the Bible, we are to be living a supernatural life now, in this present existence, in a way we shall never be able to do again through all eternity.  We are called upon to live a supernatural life here and now by faith, before we see Jesus face to face.”
Francis Schaeffer

Francis Schaeffer on Delivering the Christian Message

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 5:30 AM

“The Christian is not called to present merely another message in the same way as all the other messages are presented.  We must understand that it is not only important what we do, but how we do it.”
Francis Schaeffer

Francis Schaeffer on the Influence of the World on Christians

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , , | Posted On Monday, February 15, 2016 at 5:30 AM

“Our generation is overwhelmingly naturalistic.  There is an almost complete commitment to the concept of uniformity of natural causes in a closed system.  This is its distinguishing mark.  If we are not careful, even though we say we are biblical Christians and supernaturalists, nevertheless the naturalism of our generation tends to come in upon us.  It may infiltrate our thinking without our recognizing its coming, like a fog creeping in through a window opened only half an inch.  As soon as this happens, Christians begin to lose the reality of their Christian lives.”

Francis Schaeffer on Christian Community

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Friday, February 5, 2016 at 5:30 AM

“Our relationship with each other is the criterion the world uses to judge whether our message is truthful - Christian community is the final apologetic.”

Francis Schaeffer on Morality

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 5:30 AM

“If there is no absolute moral standard, then one cannot say in a final sense that anything is right or wrong. By absolute we mean that which always applies, that which provides a final or ultimate standard. There must be an absolute if there are to be morals, and there must be an absolute if there are to be real values. If there is no absolute beyond man’s ideas, then there is no final appeal to judge between individuals and groups whose moral judgments conflict. We are merely left with conflicting opinions.”

Francis Schaeffer on Education

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , | Posted On Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at 5:30 AM

“Today we have a weakness in our education process in failing to understand the natural associations between the disciplines.  We tend to study all our disciplines in unrelated parallel lines.  This tends to be true in both Christian and secular education.  This is one of the reasons why evangelical Christians have been taken by surprise at the tremendous shift that has come in our generation.”

Francis Schaeffer on Orthodoxy and Compassion

Posted by Bluegrass Endurance | Labels: , , | Posted On Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 5:17 AM

“Biblical orthodoxy without compassion is surely the ugliest thing in the world.”
Francis Schaeffer
