John Murray on Righteousness

“How can we understand righteousness as the positive opposite of sin unless we construe it as the opposite of what sin is? And if sin is the transgression of the law, righteousness must be conformity to the law. The law of God which Paul characterizes in this Epistle as Spiritual, that is to say, divine in its origin and nature, and holy and just and good after the pattern of him who is its author (Romans 7:12, 14), must be regarded as the criterion of righteousness no less than it is the criterion of sin.”
John Murray
Amen.
Mr. Murray sounds like a Theonomist doesn't he? He went to be with the Lord in 1975 so he didn't live to see the publication of Bahnsen's book "BY THIS STANDARD"
I remember that Mr. Einwechter quoted him several times in his excellent book "WALKING IN THE LAW OF THE LORD."
Thank you so much for giving us a copy of the book Mr. Konvalin, the Lord used it to open my eyes about the truth of Theonomy. I had always known that Anti-Nomianism was a major heresy in the Church today, but this book provided me with the Biblical solution to the role of God's Law in the life of the believer.
The Law as a reflection and transcription of God's holiness will never be done away with, but is our perfect standard for how we are to conduct our lives in a way that honors the Lord.
I'm so thankful that as believers God has given us new hearts that desire to please Him by obedience to His Word.
What a privilege it is to walk in the law of the Lord!
